Austin McCarl – Strong Showing with the Outlaws in Sin City

Des Moines, IA (March 7, 2018) – Austin McCarl took the Simplot Grower Solutions #17A out west to run with the World of Outlaws last week and kicked the season off right. In two nights racing with the Outlaws at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas, Austin was able to secure two strong A-main finishes, while finding great speed at a new track.

Austin was able to find the setup early both nights, qualifying 5th quick in his flight each night. “I was ecstatic to be able to lock in such strong qualifying times both nights,” he says. “When you run with the Outlaws, it’s fighting an uphill battle through the rest of the night if you can’t lock in a solid time in qualifying.”

McCarl’s equipment provided him the opportunity to be fast from the moment he brought the car onto the track. “I really have to thank Tim Engler at Engler Machine & Tool. We’ve been working with Tim and Steve Fitzpatrick on our fuel injection systems and we really seemed to have hit on something.” Austin also had a stout motor from Tommy Rider at Rider Racing Engines, providing him the power necessary to keep himself near the front during his heats.

Austin was able to lock the #17A into the feature field straight through his heat both nights, coming home 19th in the A-main on night one and completing the swing with a 23rd place finish on the final night. “I was really excited to be able to make the show each night straight out of the heats,” Austin noted. “I feel like we could have finished each night a bit stronger, but when you take a look at the guys that didn’t transfer out of the B-main or even the C-main each night, it shows just how strong the competition was on the track.”

His results at Las Vegas are made much more impressive when one considers that it was Austin’s inaugural visit to the track in the driver’s seat: “It was my first-time racing at Vegas. I’d been out there most recently in 2016 to help out dad on his car, but to be able to go out and compete with the Outlaws and have a strong showing meant a lot.”

Austin commented that the swing out west wouldn’t have been possible without the help of a lot of great partners. “Chad Magnussen at Simplot Grower Solutions provides us with so much support that we wouldn’t be able to do this without, as well as TW Vance Trucking and CM Rock. I also have to thank Bill Seymour and A Plus Powder Coating for everything that they do to make these big road trips possible and allow us the opportunity to contend with such fierce competition.”

The wedding bells are set to ring for Austin, as he will be getting married and enjoying some rest and relaxation on his honeymoon before hopping back in the seat of the family-owned #17A. He will be competing next on April 6th at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, IL with the MOWA Sprints before jumping in the TKS Motorsports #2KS the following night at 34 Raceway.
